I've been looking for outdoor furniture for a few years. The only thing I've purchased were a couple of teak folding chairs from Amazon. They've been perfect little chairs to move around for hosting dinner or sitting around the fire. But they are pretty uncomfortable for lounging.
There are plenty of beautiful outdoor armchairs and couches but I wanted to (1) be more frugal than the nice designs were and (2) I wanted an excuse to build a chair, something I've never done.
Make it cheap → Use ~only cedar fence slats, this wood is cheap, readily available at box stores, light, and outdoor friendly.
Keep joints simple → using bolt hardwear everywhere, simplifies the design and will weather well.
Cedar fence picket: 19/32 in. D x 5-1/2 in. W x 6 ft. H Home Depot
Two fence pickets will combine to thickness of 38/32 in. which is 1-1/16in. So our bolts will need to be that thick plus the thickness of the washer and nut and a bit more. Lets look for something around 1.5-2in.
Galvanized bolts: 1/4 in. x 1-1/2 in. Hex Bolt Lowes
Galvanized nuts: 1/4 in. Galvanized Hex Nut (50-Pack)
Galvanized washers: 1/4 in. Galvanized Flat Washer (50-Pack)
Galvanized screws: (Use what I have laying around from cold plunge ~deck work?)
