## Instructions

- Add all ingredients to a mixing glass

## Patterns, Not Rules, Not Formulas

As we make cocktails, we'll start to grasp on a pattern only to have it twist and turn on us. There are no hard rules, no formulas, and no absolutes.

There are patterns and we can use them to guide us, like stars in the sky, as we make our own cocktails.

## Sour-Fizz-Daisy

There are three constellations of cocktails that are tightly connected the [sours](/posts/sours), [daisies](/posts/daisies), and [fizzes](/posts/fizz).

Each of these constellations are made of **spirit, citrus, and sweetener**.

The [sours](/posts/sours) are made of spirit, citrus, and **sweetener as sugar**, usually in the form of a syrup for ease in mixing. An egg white is sometimes added.

The [fizzes](/posts/fizz) are the same, spirit, citrus, and sugar, **plus seltzer**. Yea, egg whites still come up here too.

The [daisies](/posts/daisies) are made of spirit, citrus, and **sweetener as liqueur and sugar** and sometimes seltzer.

### Sour-Fizz-Daisy: An Example

## The Pattern

A sour cocktail is made of **spririt, citrus, and sugar**. An egg white is sometimes added.

## Examples

- Whiskey Sour - Bourbon, lemon, sugar, egg white
- Daiquiri - Rum, lime, sugar
- Caipirinha - Cachaça, lime, sugar
- Tequila Sour - Tequlia, lime, sugar.
- Gin Sour - Gin, lemon, sugar, egg white
- Gimlet - Gin, lime, sugar

## A Formula?

I've seen 2:1:1 suggested as a formula: 2 parts spirit, 1 part citrus, and 1 part sugar. But I dont find this to be work often enough to recommend it.

There are 7 **Master Movements**.

Each Master Movement has a series of **progressions**.

Each week you’ll do one progression from each Master Movement.

You must master each progression for before moving on to the next progression.

You will master progressions at different speeds, thats ok.

There are enough progressions to last many years. (I never completed them all.)

At a minimum, you’ll want to do one progression from all 7 Master Movements each week.

Each progression defines the sets/reps/seconds for "Mastery:". Reduce the sets/reps/seconds to a level that is challenging but not overwhelming. Then increase the sets/reps/seconds each week as you get stronger. Do not progress to the next progression until you master the current progression.

## The Pattern

The fizzes are made of spirit, citrus, and sugar plus seltzer. An egg white is sometimes added.

## Sour-Daisy-Fizz

The fizzes constellation becomes [sours](/posts/sours) as you remove the seltzer. And when you change sweetener from sugar to liqueur, you have [daisies](/posts/daisies).

- Add the bourbon and stir
- Garnish by expressing the orange over the glass, then wiping the rim, and placing it in
