Moving from Logseq to Reflect

How did we get here?

I moved from Roam to Logseq after having syncing issues too many times that lost my data. (Ignoring the terrible UX of the iOS that crashed and was slow to start).

And yesterday, I lost a days of notes in Logseq. The notes were there for a fews days then gone. Likely a merge error from my iOS app to my desktop app. I wasnt able to recover them.

If you loose my data, your app is dead to me.

How is Reflect different?

Its fast, really fast. It syncs faster too. I'm scared about sync issues mentioned in discord, lets see how it works for me...

Pros

  • Reflect is way faster to start up than either Logseq or Roam -> I can open and start typing in ~instantly
  • Reflect seems to sync much faster than either Logseq or Roam -> type out a note on my desktop, pick up my iPhone and in a few seconds the note is there (I wish it did background syncs like Apple Notes)

Cons

  • No right side panel to view multiple notes at once
  • No search for any text string (only note title strings)
  • No sort/search within incoming backlinks
  • No ability to focus on a single day note (you have to have all of time on scroll)
  • No customizable keyboard shortcuts (I find the collapse a bullet point shortcut to be awkward)
  • No dragging bullets to move them around
  • When indenting a bullet parent, this doesnt automatically indent all children
  • Todo bullets cannot be collapsed

Getting Data from Logseq into Reflect

  • Export logseq data as "Roam JSON"
  • Remove ---/n and /n--- from that json file
  • Remove :LOGBOOK:.*:END: from that json file
  • Import into Reflect as "Roam JSON"
