👨🏻‍🍳 Better Recipe Format

A better recipe format for the web

The Problem

You find a new brownie recipe you want to cook. You scroll past all the ads 👀. You review the list of ingredients and gather from the store and the cuppoard everything you need. Great.

Now you go to start cooking. You scroll down to the instructions:

In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, chocolate chips, and salt.

Ok, but how much sugar, flour and cocoa? Scroll back up.

"1 cup sugar, 3/4 flour, 2/3 cup cocoa", perfect. Add add add.

Wait, did I need to add the powdered sugar at this point too? I already forgot. Scroll back down to instructions.

Yup. Uh, how much powered sugar? Scroll back up...

You're not even done with one step and you've needed to put down measuring cups and spoons 2 times to scroll back and forth!

Repeat this scrolling back and forth for every instruction. For every ingredient. For every recipe. There has to be a better way!

We're going to rewrite the recipe format so you can finish the whole instruction without touching the phone once.

The Solution

Its very simple. The amounts of the ingredients are included under each instruction. You can see it in action in my brownie recipe.

The list of ingredients is still at the top, untouched. This is useful when you are in the "what do I need to make this" frame of mind.

When you switch to "lets make this" frame, your requirements change, you need to have BOTH the instructions and ingredient amounts in front of you. Thats what this format does.
